Powerful and environmentally friendly: Polyols from renewable raw materials

HOBUM Oleochemicals and IMPAG have already been working together for many years. We are proud to have expanded this great cooperation even further, so that we can now present the entire product range of HOBUM.

HOBUM Oleochemicals is a company based in Hamburg, Germany and has been developing innovative products based on renewable raw materials for over 60 years. The product range is based on unsaturated vegetable oils, their fatty acids and derivatives. HOBUM Oleochemicals has valuable know-how and experience in the development, targeted modification, manufacture and application of these products of high bio-based carbon content. If necessary, HOBUM can also develop customer-specific solutions.

Here, we focus on the polyols from HOBUM:

These polyols are based on a wide variety of vegetable oils, modified and tailored to the respective application. The renewable portion has been kept as high as possible (up to 100%) at equal or higher performance compared to petrochemical raw materials.
Polyols from oleochemical raw materials offer possibilities that petrochemical materials cannot: natural, renewable resources are used that improve the carbon footprint. At the same time, they offer the possibility to modify the polyol selectively to give the end product new properties or to improve its existing properties.

  • increased hydrophobicity
  • increased flow properties without use of additives
  • increased water resistance
  • good aging characteristics
  • high gloss
  • improved chemical resistance
  • improved elasticity and restoring forces
  • longer pot life
  • widely adjustable viscosities

The following chart illustrates the renewable portion of these polyols.

Bio-based carbon content of Merginols

Alongside use in all conceivable PU application areas, Merginols are highly versatile for use in diverse CASE products. Typically, they are used in mixtures with petrochemical polyols, but can also make up 100% of the total polyol content.
